Past Projects
Asbestos Abatement and Methamphetamine Remediation - Two 8-Unit Apartment Buildings
Skagit County WA, 2024
This project encompassed both asbestos abatement methamphetamine remediation to remediate two hazards for the price of one. The client contracted AA Decon to perform the interior demolition of 16 residential one and two bedroom apartment units in Western Washington, totaling approximately 16,976 square feet, while also complying with LnI abatement regulations and the funding source’s requirements for meth testing and cleanup.
We removed 44,087 square feet of ACM, including popcorn ceiling texture, textured wallboard, and sheet vinyl flooring with mastic. After abatement and demolition was complete, framing members near forced air systems and the entire attic space was cleaned and sampled for residual methamphetamine contamination.
Executed from May 20 to September 2, 2024, the project adhered to strict safety and regulatory standards. Third-party consultant TRCT Asbestos provided design and air monitoring throughout the process. Heat waves during the project made work conditions especially difficult. Our crews were diligent and persistent and enabled a successful on-time completion.
The successful completion demonstrates our capacity for large-scale asbestos removal and demolition, delivered efficiently and safely, with effective third-party coordination.
Methamphetamine Remediation - 47 Room Motel
Skagit County WA, 2024
This project encompassed methamphetamine remediation and interior cleaning to remediate hazardous contamination. The client contracted AA Decon to perform the cleanup of a 47-room motel, closed by the local Department of Health due to illicit drug activity. The local Health Jurisdiction supervised the decontamination project from start to finish, including all rounds of pre and post sampling as well as all cleanup activities. AA Decon worked closely with the property owner’s insurance representative for documentation and claim coverage.
Comprehensive pre-decontamination sampling was performed to identify and isolate contaminant levels, including in the attic spaces above, unpainted wood cabinets, unpainted wood structural ceilings, guest rooms, and common area rooms such as guest laundry rooms. A Work Plan that addressed each intricacy was developed and approved by the local health jurisdiction.
As cleanup efforts were completed in stages, rigorous post-decontamination sampling was performed to evaluate the efficacy of the cleanup work. The age and general condition of the property made cleanup work difficult. Areas of lingering contamination were identified, and re-cleaning efforts took place. Of special note, the unpainted structural ceiling has absorbed high levels of contamination, and after multiple applications of specialized heavy duty cleaning products, contamination above WA’s decontamination standard was still present. Our experienced team had anticipated this outcome before cleanup work started. The contingency plan of encapsulation, after substantial contaminant reduction had been confirmed, was implemented.
The successful completion demonstrates our capacity for large-scale methamphetamine remediation, delivered efficiently and safely, meeting stringent health department requirements.
Mold Remediation with Asbestos Fireproofing - 78 Room Hotel
Snohomish County WA, 2024
This was a Public Works project for a hotel that Snohomish County had acquired to convert into shelter housing after COVID. AA Decon had been involved with Methamphetamine remediation for this building prior. AA Decon was subsequently awarded a Mold Remediation project when extensive mold contamination was discovered during a later stage of the renovation.
Mold and moisture damage had impacted nearly all 78 of the building’s guest rooms. The scope of work to remove mold impacted building materials, then disinfect all surfaces within each room. Soon after work took place, asbestos-containing fire-proofing was discovered inside wall between each guest room. Class II asbestos regulations were required from that point forward. Because our firm and crew members are certified by WA L&I for asbestos abatement, work was able to resume with minimal interruptions.
Windows at the front of each guest room enabled plenty of photographs to be taken while our crews worked.
The project was supervised by Snohomish County’s contracted environmental consultant – Atlas. The project took place between October 2024 and February 2025.
